What If I Don’t Know How to Pose?

Honestly? Most of my clients don’t know how to pose.

And that is completely okay.

You do not need modeling experience to have beautiful maternity or newborn photos. You do not need to practice in the mirror. You do not need to show up already knowing what to do with your hands, your face, or your body.

That’s my job.

A lot of moms come in feeling nervous because they think posing is going to feel awkward or hard. Especially during pregnancy, when your body is changing and you may not feel like yourself. I get it.

But the good news is, you are not expected to figure it all out on your own.

I guide you the whole time

When you book a session with me, I guide you every step of the way.

I’ll show you where to stand, how to place your hands, how to move, and even the little things that make a big difference in photos. Sometimes it’s just a small turn of the body, fixing posture, relaxing the shoulders, or changing where you’re looking.

Those little adjustments matter a lot.

You don’t have to come in knowing any of that. I help with it.

You are not supposed to feel like a model

Let’s be real. Most people are not in front of a professional camera all the time.

So if you feel a little awkward at first, that’s normal.

My job is to help you feel comfortable, not to make you feel pressured. I do not expect perfection. I just guide you in a way that feels natural and flattering so your photos look beautiful without feeling too stiff or forced.

Posing is about guidance, not guessing

A lot of people think great photos just happen because the client knows what to do.

Not true.

Beautiful images come from good lighting, good communication, and a photographer who knows how to guide their clients well. That is such a big part of the experience.

So if you’ve been putting off booking because you’re worried you won’t know how to pose, please know that you are not alone.

That is one of the most common things I hear.

You just have to show up

Seriously.

You show up, and I help with the rest.

I’ll guide you in a way that helps you feel confident, comfortable, and taken care of. You do not need to have it all figured out before your session.

That’s what I’m here for.

Final thoughts

If you’ve been wanting maternity or newborn photos but keep thinking, “I’d love to, but I don’t know how to pose,” don’t let that stop you.

You do not need to know how to pose.

You just need a photographer who knows how to guide you.

And that can make all the difference.
